Front drive shaft trouble help!!

I've got a f-250 sd crew cab diesel 4x4. The front drive shaft well the cvc part of it is all rusted and broke. What's the best way to fix it? I've had a couple mechanics look at it they say to just put a whole new shaft on? I've priced around there like 400 bucks. Any suggestions? Is there somewhere i can get a good used one or a place that would be cheaper? Thanks.Donovan

You should check out the autoparts stores in your area. Long ago I purchased the parts to rebuild the CV joint in my '78 f150. The CV looks the same today as it did back then. Good luck.

The CV is just a double u-joint - goto to your local Ford, NAPA or similar place and see if they have a complete kit for it.

Unless, of course, the flange or the shaft loops are destroyed, then you might be better off with a new shaft.

Also, check for driveshaft shops in your area - they can probably rebuild it cheaper than new.
