Hey guys, new here first post. I'm not trying to sell anything in this post. This post is for research and to hoprfully get some general information.
I have a '77 F-150 Ranger XLT 4x4 Standard Cab Short Bed with a 460 installed that it is time to sell. I don't want to start with Ebay, I'd like to find a a better audience to present the truck to.
Here's the back story: It was my Father's truck and I inherited it when he died in 1996. It was special ordered and delivered to my father on my 2nd birthday. I have kept the maintenance on the truck up and it's been garaged nearly it's entire life, it's never been repainted. I drove the truck on and off for a few years, but now I have a wife and kids, so I drive an '05 F-350 4x4 Crew-Cab Diesel.
Anyway, the point is, it's time to part with the truck. I have no idea what the market is like on these trucks, particularly nice ones with 460s in them instead of the 400M boat anchor it came with. I'm mostly looking for input on where those of you who like these era trucks look for them. I have all of the build documents for the truck, receipts for most of the modifications, and I can provide current performance data as well.
First off, Welcome to FTE!!!! I'd first post it in the classified here on FTE. Than, I'd maybe try craigslist, your local papers and etc. Also, may check out the chapter forum for your area here because there should be a for sale thread. Than, I'd go with Ebay....
I areas where rust would be a minimal, like the south or out west, the market value will be low. Just the opposite, where rust is everywhere, the market would be high if your truck is rust free and runs well. The 4x4 is also appealing. I'd start here and local and go from there. Sorry to hear you have to sell the truck, but family comes first.
Well, I just don't have any reason to keep the truck if it is just going to sit the truck is extremely nice for being 31 years old soon the interior is imaculate, the body is dent free, the bed only has a few minor scratches in the cargo area it has tons of power with the 460 that is in it and it runs great on 91 fuel even getting decent mileage on the highway, 14 or better last time i really drove it.
I would really like the truck to go to someone who will appreciate it at least a little for what it is and the condition it's in. This is not a typical example of this era truck.
If you're not under any financial pressure to sell it, I'd be afraid you'd really regret it a little later on down the line. Maybe not initially, but after some time passes. Especially because it was your dad's truck. I know that's not really answering your question though. But I think bucks77ford did a pretty good job explaining what all to try.
What are you looking to get for it? and where are you located?
drop me a e-mail with some info and some pictures, I may know of someone that might be interested? he is a member here but does not stop by often, his U/N is Ranger429, he is a certifiable Ford Nut! and really loves and respects these trucks of ours (73-79)

If you're in Cali (which your profile suggests) and you try to sell locally, it will have to be able to pass emissions, which could get interesting since it is not an original equipment configuration. You may actually have better success and higher selling price by not selling it local. Just my opinion, but maybe advertise it in some of the surrounding states. (Or just let me store it for you until you realize that you want it back) jk
sorry i haven't had a chance to get info to you sooner. my only internet access this week has been my PDA phone. I'll be back home next week and I can send you an email then.
Ah, OK COOL! No Problems,
didn't realize you where off on a walk about.
be safe and drop me a line when you get home,
stay safe Brother ..Rick (Salt-Man)
The truck is smog legal in California, and everywhere else for that matter. It is an original configuration based on the GVW, even though you technically could never have ordered the truck in this configuration. This truck is a F-150 heavy half with the camper package and the GVW is over the lowest GVW for an F-250, so it passes California smog just fine. It's never been to the referee, I just drive it in, test it, and go. The only required emissions on the truck is the EGR because of the GVW. The only thing anyone has ever questioned at smog time is the '79 model 4180 Holley carburetor, but it's passed visual every time as an upgraded but original Ford carburetor, and I have no 4350-D toilet troubles as a result.
Definitly send me that info. either to my e-mail or P/M me
I tried sending you a P/M but could not
I really do think I know just the person you need to talk too
Thanks...Rick
