1. Being a Ford tech he probably keeps up on the maintenance of his own rig.
2. Did he say if he ran a tuner or chip?
3. Did he mention if he had done anything to the trans- valve body, etc?
1. Ah, misled you. This was another customer waiting for the service department to open. Not an employee. But he probably did keep the service up to date. Said he had had injector failures, and problems getting good service from a particular dealer.
2. He had Banks stickers on it. But I don't know just what he had.
3. No, nothing had been done to the tranny at all. That was mostly what we talked about, the tranny, and it was all original.
00 is probably the best year for the 7.3L if you want to be real picky.
How so? The PMR vs. forged rods? In stock or mild form, I haven't heard of many issues until they really get beat on. I love my 2002, best truck I've had. Runs really well for a stock truck. Don't know if I was just lucky or the 02s were better?
Seems like a lot of the 2000s I've worked on/driven seem sluggish compared to other years.
Loca, I've kept you and your family in my prayers and I hope all is working out for you. Now I'm sure you are not going to want to hear this, but I have an early '03 6.0 that has been great(6-28-03 build date). I get just under 18 MPG running empty and no major issues. How has your truck been running now that it is properly repaired? Until you find another one I'm guessing you will keep using it and it may show itself to be reliable in the meantime.
I think that the dealers who did the faulty work for you should have to refund your money. Have you gotten anywhere on that account? Any help from other sources? I'm really hoping it gets settled favorably for you, even if you do end up with a different truck. If you wind up anywhere in New England the offer's open to stop buy for coffee, rest, a meal or anything I can offer up to help you out.
Do any of you know, if I go to a Ford dealership, if they have a way to find what I am looking for?
Yup, most larger dealerships can find you anything you want across the country. I talked to our dealership last year about a '07 F350 XL 4x4, V10, 6-speed, reg. cab long bed...and they said there wasn't one on the entire east coast. And, of course, they don't check smaller mom-&-pop used car lots or Chevy/Dodge dealerships.
I met a guy at the service bay last year with an '00 that had 200k on his original auto. Most of that pulling a 5th wheel that I assume was a big one although I didn't ask (he had air bags.) He said he wanted an '08 but had promised the wife to drive that one for 250k before trading. He hinted he was piling up the miles as fast as possible.
Point being, ya just never know.
Bill
We have always had great luck with the 4R100's in our trucks. I have 275K on mine and I tow 20k on a regular basis. We have one driver who has an 01' with over 580k miles on his 7.3 / 4R100 and has done nothing to the truck except regular maintence. He has had a SuperChip in it since it was new. We flush the trans fliud every 50k or once a year (usually twice a year).

I know this is true for new trucks. When I was selling them we could search the entire country. I went from MD, to Maine and Ohio to get trucks for customers.
Used trucks are a different story because of the way inventory is kept. It usually isn't part of the Ford system, it is within the individual dealership. I could search within the dealer's system of locations, but ones owned by a different person/company.
