maverick see my post above- Chevy trucks haven't used a straight axle since 1987, the Suburbans continued until 91 I believe (for some reason they didn't change the Suburban body style until later). That $$%&*@ torsion bar joke of a front end is the reason I'll never own another Chevy (that and I just don't think the trucks are as nice or heavy duty as Fords are).

Thread for OASIS request. It takes a day or two but you should get an email with your report. I've gotten two already.

back to searching... this sucks

Neither place had any outcome.

Do any of you know, if I go to a Ford dealership, if they have a way to find what I am looking for?

Try CarMax: Warning: Outdated web browser

Be sure to include other years than 2003. Anything from 99.5 to early 2003 will be the same basic truck. Carmax is also a good place to get an offer for your existing truck, even if you don't buy another.

Except the 4R100 tranny. I'd try to get as close to 2003 as possible.

Hey, WI is a great place. Well, except for our crazy high taxes and road salt. Seriously, the salt will cause a lot of corrosion on the underside of the truck. The most costly is the oil pan on the 7.3. If this rusts out the motor must be pulled to replace it. It's not a big deal if you catch it before it becomes a problem. I would highly reccomend you find a truck to drive in your area before buying one on the other side of the country. The 6 has quite a bit more power and a better (stock) trans than the 7.3. Good Luck to you.

I'd get the 6 speed manual if I could do it over again. I know in 01 there was a diode in the trans that was problematic, not sure on the later (02-03) models. All the 4R100's are problematic if people don't maintain them properly and/or you up the HP without beefing up the trans too. 00 is probably the best year for the 7.3L if you want to be real picky.

I met a guy at the service bay last year with an '00 that had 200k on his original auto. Most of that pulling a 5th wheel that I assume was a big one although I didn't ask (he had air bags.) He said he wanted an '08 but had promised the wife to drive that one for 250k before trading. He hinted he was piling up the miles as fast as possible.

Point being, ya just never know.

You are right, you never do know. But,
1. Being a Ford tech he probably keeps up on the maintenance of his own rig.
2. Did he say if he ran a tuner or chip?
3. Did he mention if he had done anything to the trans- valve body, etc?

The guys that have good luck with the 4R100 take care of it. They go downhill fast (from what I've seen) if you aren't religious about changing the fluid and if you beat on it very much.
