I live in the desert- its just the sun beating me up. It only freaks in a moving gear so I can close it in park. A guy from justanswer.com sent me written instructions on electrical issues to check (it cost me $9)- I was impresssed but haven't had time to fix it yet. I have heard dealers will try and sell you a whole new moonroof.

Take the "$9 fix" to the dealer and let them know that you have no interest in replacing the moon roof. And not every moom roof leaks. My 2003 Expy has nearly 100K on the clock and has never leaked a drop. However, I'd never try to work on it myself. It's too important to get it right. One screw-up could cause a lot of grief, even in the desert.
