fuel pump symptoms

What should the fuel rail pressure be. Mine is about 50 psi when engine is running. What is happening is that the eng will run for about 15 minutes then slowly die out. So I put a gauge on it (fuel) and it loses pressure and then dies out. I then must cycle the ingition off and on 4 or 5 times to get the pressure back up. The engine will then run for about 5 minutes before this happens all over again. Is this a symptom of pump failure, fuel regulator, or is it something else. By the way I already changed the fuel filter. I have a 89 f150 300 six c6.

It sort of sounds like there may be an obstruction. I'd replace the fuel filter first, then the pumps are easy enough to check. Bypass the pump relay with the key in the on position, engine off. the frame rail pump and whatever tank pump you have selected should be running ( you can get under the truck and feel the general area of the pumps for vibration). Usually when a pump fails, it just fails, or maybe will cut out in very cold weather. If all this is OK, then make sure the vacuum line on the pressure regulator is hooked up in the first place/not broken, and that there is not gas in the vacuum line (which means the pressure regulator has failed.) Hope this helps.
