hey guys. kinda new here and had a question. I see this truck around my town all the time. looks to be a 97ish year. Diesel. Everytime he lets off the gas it makes kinda like a studdered blow off sound. Its kinda hard to explain but it should ba. and was wondering how i can get that sound when i let off the gas. Thanks alot and i hope this makes sense
Welcome to and I have no idea what this sound is you're referring to. Sorry. If I were to take a guess, I'd say it might be an exhaust brake activating or a turbo wastegate opening to bleed off excessive boost pressure.
By the way...in life and especially around here, the only dumb question is the one you don't ask. Feel free to ask anything. Someone here will have a suggestion for you.
All of the kidding and joking going on around here is all meant in fun.
ok thanks guys. The truck seems to have alot done to it. Sorry about the dumb question part lol. Would it be a good choice for me to look into a exhaust brake? I tow alot and take on lots of hills. What does a exhaust brake really do?
Most likely it's the turbo unspooling quickly. My truck does it. But I believe it's a product of leaky up pipes allowing the drive pressure to drop too soon. But no matter what, if you have an open exhaust and you can really push some boost, you will hear the chiiiieeewww sound. Sorry that's the best I can describe it.

Straight pipe your exhaust (new downpipe, ditch the cat and cut out the muffler) and get an open element (6637) intake and you will hear your turbo alot more. The noise you are hearing is probably the turbo spooling down from full throttle. It sounds sweet!!
As far as the exhaust brake, you've already got one. It cost me $7 for wire and the switch to set mine up. Does somebody have the link??? Or you can google 'stevebaz'
cool. Thanks alot guys. I already have 4in straight pipe and looking to get a intake soon. RubberDuck explained the sound pretty good. I found a video of a 97 psd on you tube. At the end when he lets off it kinda does that noise. YouTube - 1997 Ford Powerstroke Thanks alot guys.
