Is $1300 too much? Supposedly runs good and has almost zero rust.. I intend to pull and sell the 5.0 (so if anybody wants it, let me know lol) and drop in my 408. About 425-450 HP I presume. So my questins to u are: How in the heck am I supposed to get it to hook up!? It's got a peg leg 7.5" now that I'll change to a locked 8.8 when I get it home. I'm gonna be using 14x6 wheels to keep the sleeper look so massive sticky tires are kinda outta the question... Also can I get by with FOX body long tubes? Or 2wd F150 long tubes? I have both. Thanks

Is the AOD beefed up to handle that much V8 power? AOD's really need a good converter in them to show the motor's full potential. Besides that, does the AOD have a cooler and a shift kit? We Mustang guys like the Trans Go kits.
Getting traction with this combo inside a Ranger pickup is almost silly w/o some serious rubber on the ground and some serious rear suspension work out back. If you are going to race this thing, all I can say that it will take some technique and skill.
good luck with fitting that in there. i heard the 351 is hard enough and gets in the way. besides im dropping in a 302 stroked to 347 and will be pushing around 500 hp with a smaller lighter engine. i would just keep the 302 and rebuild it

A 408 will be no more difficult to fit than a 351 for the simple fact that, ITS THE SAME ENGINE! Lol sorry I didn't elaborate, a 408 is a 351W stroked to 4" VS 3.5"... and flexfuel dave, I'm sorry i didn't elaborate again I'll be using a C4 fully built with B&M Transpak and a 36000 GVW cooler. I don't intend to race it, maybe once or twice just for *****s and giggles to see what it runs. The main purpose is to toy with my buddy's '72 Camaro and it's 400HP 383 stroker. I'm a jealous person and also a sore loser bah hahaha. I'm the only Ford boy in my school so it's about time I show em how its done lol. Yes I'm still in high school haha

well if there the same engine . actually that will be awsome then. do some research about the 351 if you havent because thats what i was gonna do but heard that its more difficult so i went with a stroked 302 to a 347 and ill just put new heads and a blower on it
the 351 Windsor is taller and wider than a 302. there are interference problems with the steering and firewall in particular. Not that it can't or hasn't been done - it's just more involved.
to agree with 5.0B2 the 351 is larger and heavier. i research things like crazy before i do them (thanks college) and if i remember correctly the 351 is 1" longer and either 4" wider or 4" taller than the 302. honestly stroke a 302 and put some good pistons and heads and you'll be pushing major horsepower. i got a complete rebuild kit including my stroker kit for around $1800. thats all new gaskets, lifters, cam, forgeded dished mahle pistons, new timing chain, and the crank shaft for that much. also i dont know if you know but getting an engine stroked you have to bore it out but you also have to get the cyclinders notched out so the rods dont hit the bottom of the cylinders
There's people on here with stoked 460's in Rangers. The only one I knew with a V8 was my neighbor. He had a 302 in his, and a big set of slicks...you still couldn't keep it hooked with a little 302 in it. Good luck with the swap, it shouldn't give you much problems.
you could use this type of traction bar as it doenst hang down so its not as noticable. there are better ones then these but this was the first pic i found of this style.
You need to go up to 15" rims, you will have a lot better tire selection and it will still look stock. You really need to run some sorta drag radial, a sleeper is no good if it won't move, you'll still get feed your lunch. You have to be able to get traction, or it's worthless. A high gear may help some like a 3:08, but then you give up some hard excelleration. I would worry less about the sleeper look and more about getting it to hook up. All the power in the world will do you no good if you can't get it top the ground. I would consider a 4 link, drag radials and level the truck to cast some of the weight toward the rear. 14" tires are really out of the question if you want to get the power moving. I have 18" rims with bfg G-force radials on my mustang GT and thats not enough tire to hold it to the ground with the stock motor. As I build my engine I will be running drag radials, at least at the strip, maybe even the street. When I lauch hard now, it will spin through 1st and 2nd gear, it looks impressive, but can cost me a race. I need it to hook up before I go to Pinks all out june 6th at Norwalk.
