I'm swapping out an 83 351w 2bbl that has the crank fire (I think that is what it is called) distributer with an 84 351w H.O. 4bbl. What I don't know is, can I use the harmaonic balancer and the timing chain cover from my 83? Everything else (except for the carb. and distributer) should be a straight up swap I think!?

I really don't have a direct answer to your question but I'll tell you what I do in similar situations. Parts usually have a part number on them somewhere and if they are the same from one year to the next the part number will be the same. I hope this helps a little.

 

All 351W's have a 28 ounce internal balance setup, so any flexplate/flywheel and balancer will work from any year 351, and the 1980 and older 302's as well. I'm somewhat sure of the year 1981 being the year they switched to 50 oz external balance on 302's only. TK

Along those same lines....I have a 1966 289 and would like to know if the balancer and flywheel off of it will work on a 1983 351W? Thanks in advance for the help.
