Doing the 2 stroke treatment

That long 2 stroke oil treatment thread peaked my curiosity and I had to try it for myself. I made about a 4 hundred mile trip today, 50 city miles, 30 miles back country roads scouting for Spring Turkey's, and the rest freeway and over and back over Snoqualmie Pass. I had my usual amount of Power Service in there plus I added 25 ounces of Wallie World 2 stroke oil to the mix. I got 18mpg for the trip, one mpg better than usual however I attribute that to keeping it under 2k rpm. I usually drive 70 to 75 and average 17mpg. What I did notice is a little less engine noise, even my DW said she thought it was quieter.
I know the famous oil test says no difference, however the 2 stroke oil comes in at a 7 and DK is a 10, so I think I will continue to use it.

I am having similar results. Last fillup (this morning) netted 18.1 MPG. Almost completely unheard of for this truck on winter fuel. Last four tanks were 16.4 (untreated), 16.0 (untreated), 17.5 (untreated, very consevative driving), and 18.1 (easy driving and 16 oz 2cyl oil). This tank will maintain the "grandpa" driving style with 32oz oil.

The following two tanks will be "normal" driving with the 16 then 32oz treatments. This should give me a fairly accurate gauge on weather or not the oil helps of if it's just the driving style.

You might as well hold off on your tests for a while Scott. I'm surprised Arkansas is still on winter fuel. Maybe the 18.1 is the beginning of the switch to summer grade. Either way, wouldn't it be better to have all your tests on the same type of fuel than having to try and factor in the switch?

I thought about that too, but untreated ULSD makes my injectors knock so loud I can't stand to listen to it.

If anything I'll just drop the first two tanks and get the untreated tests on the back end.

18.1 is already better than any tank last summer....so it will be interesting to see what this stuff actually does.

How much 2 stroke oil do you add per Gallon ???? My tank is 110 liters up here, So I think that would be about 28-30 Gals ??????

I was just thinking of you sticking with the 16 oz. treatment until the fuel change over so you've got a base line before you start changing your dosage. If you're happy with the 18.1 see what summer fuel does with the 16 oz treatment then go for the 32 oz. We'll take your word on the untreated numbers.

Good idea, that had also crossed my mind. Just the 16oz. quiets the injectors down considerably, which makes it worth it to me on that basis alone. A lot of it will depend on what this tank of 32oz does or does not do.

I do think my new blue fuel filter is kind of cool looking.

If you follow the long thread you would add slightly less than one quart for 29 gallons. The objective would be one ounce per gallon. So far I like one half ounce to the gallon, but if the full ounce ends up being better I'll do it.

That's what everyone's trying to figure out. Start out around 1/2 ounce per gallon then play with it from there. So for 29 gallons try 14.5 ounces.

Edit: Scott beat me to it. I'm still typing too slow.

thanks for the help guys... but my next problem is i usually fill my truck once it gets to under half tank easier on the wallet. now when i fill up at the half tank do i still add the 1/2 oz to the gallon or would it be wiser to just run my tank down all the way and fill it up at the 1/2 oz to the gallon?

8oz per half tank should keep you right in the ballpark.

It shouldn't matter either way. If you fill up at a 1/2 tank then dump the 2 cycle in first and let the fill up help mix it. Driving around will also help mix the fuel up also.

Edit: I give up. I'm going to bed. Scott replied to me and Bob, and Danny jumped in too before I could answer. Maybe I'll do better tomorrow.
