97 explorer when i switch the dial to cold it does nothing, even with AC on, its basically stuck on max heat, is this a issue with the **** itself or the flap that opens and shuts under the dash?? how would i go about fixing??
it could be either. first pull the **** off and see if the shaft is actually moving when turned. if it is, then you need the blend door fix. the door can be accessed by removing the glove box, and cutting a hole into the air duct. there is an electric motor with a plastic arm on it that rotates a shaft to move the door. the plastic is broke. --- this is much simpler than removing the dash and removing the duct.-- will post the procedure if i find it.
ok, thanks for the pics!!! im gonna try and get it fixed this weekend before the warm weather gets here, i tried the **** and its working, at least turning, so im guessing its the blend door, now to get me through the summer i could just open it and leave it open rite and get the AC??
yes, it strokes from full hot to full cold. you can push the door to one location and put a wire or screw in the arm so it cant move back. make sure the cam arm is off so the motor dont try to pull on it.
