Tranmission cold check

The AT dipstick has a "cold" mark for checking. Should this be checked before the cold truck is started or should it be checked after starting and the trans cyled through the gears? I check mine when it is hot but the cold markings must be there for a purpose...or not.

Check your owners manual...

But I believe it is checked cold, prior to running the engine...
