I have a recently rebuilt 390 and I am not satisfied with the bottom end so I am looking to replace the camshaft. It has an edelbrock 750cfm carb and an edelbrock aluminum intake meant for idle to 5500rpm. It has stock rebuilt heads and high compression pistons and headers. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on what kind of cam would work best?
The comp 268 would be a great cam for your truck. 1500-5500rpm. Has all the low end you need and a lot more top end than stock. PN# 33-224-3 for the cam and K33-224-3 for the complete kit.
Replace the 750 carb, it's too big and hurts the bottom end. A 600 will work better and is good to 5300 and just how often do you really need to run 5500. FYI, that 7500 is good to 6600 RPM and you don't need it. Besides the 600 will improve mpg. I agree with 65f100_352's recommendation for a cam, unless the cam you have now is in the same ball park, then you problem is overcarburation, a common one BTW.
I ordered the comp 268H cam but in the description of it it said that it was meant for 9:1 compression and under and that any higher compression would just work against the cam; my engine is running at about 10:1 or a little higher is this something to worry about?

blueovalboy ... did you find any information on the 10:1 vs 9:1 compression and cam effectiveness?
