Radius Bushing help needed
<HR style="COLOR: #d1d1e1" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message --><TABLE width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top>1996 F150 4X4 4.9 radius bushings are flat and need to be replaced.
Should I drill out the rivets in the hanger brackets??
Or should I pull the front axle forward with a wench??
Which is the best way to go??
Is there anything else that will make it dart from side to side??
I replaced them on a 1994 Explorer and it was very easy to cut the rivets and replace with grade 8 hardware.........axle is harder to move forward enough to clear the radius brackets. check the bushings at the axle ends.....ball joints.....tie rod ends...drag link....
wheel bearings....all these things can make the truck dart.
what did you have to remove or take loose to move the axle forward??
loosen all the brackets holding the axle from moveing foward (i dont remember, it was a long time ago) and use a come along and pull it foward......make sure your trucks not going to move first....really easy
The first time I did it I removed the nut on the radius arm and pulled the axle back with a come-a-long. That is all I removed. This was on a 95 f150 2 wheel drive.
Hey all, always great to catch up after being in the land of sand, protecting the "green zone". I have a 94 Explorer that needs radius bushings replaced. Any info and or links to the manual would be very much apprecited. Just need to keep myself busy and want to tackle this one myself if possible. Thanks all and good to be home, believe me.
if you are going to replace the frame side bushings, you might as well get a 14 piece kit to cover the c bushings and trac bar bushings. Will be easier to push the axle forward with the trac bar and c's removed anyway
