I have the chance every day.We all do they are all over the place. In fact, I have been cruising ebay the last couple of days looking at Excursions to replace the wife's Expedition with. I have it sort through the list by model year. I skip over the 2001 model year because of the diode in the tranny and I stop looking after 2003 model year. I am disappointed every time I click on a link for a 2003 and it turns out to have to 6.blow in it. If I HAD to take a 6.0 and someone else was paying for it ie: a work vehicle being provided by an employer, I would go with the '07 so that I could get the newest one I guess.
I voted "NO!" If something happened to mine I'd try like mad to replace it with another 7.3L. Did the 05's still have leaf spring front ends? If my truck died a horrible death and I found a screaming deal on 6-leaker leaf sprung 4x4 I'd seriously consider it, but only if I couldn't find a 7.3L that tickled my fancy.
I need an all of the above option. I've got 05, 06, & an 07 at work. Due to some employee issues I kept the 07 at home for about 6 weeks and let the wife drive it. I drove it around some on weekends but kept my old 02. After looking over the 07 I was forced to put air bags in my truck since a side by side comparison showed how much my rear springs were sagging.
I try not to think about what I would do if my truck was killed. I will cross that bridge if I get there. I voted no, but if I had to the new the better with a clean oasis.
I would go either '06 or '07 (I voted '07 though). "They" say a lot of the issues were fixed in '05, but my buddy's '05 has had the turbo, intake & head gaskets, and injectors replaced. Maybe even EGR stuff -- I don't remember exactly. I remain unconvinced.
When the time comes for me, either I'll keep my 7.3 and get something else for my daughter, or she gets the 7.3 and I get an extended cab short bed 6.0 4x4 (or maybe the same truck in a 6.4). Time will tell...
Excluding those among us who want the newest, bestest thing out there, there is no sane reason to consider a 6.0. Even Ford saw the light and abandon ship moving on to the 6.4L.
I've been looking for a diesel burner for some time, and I can tell you the car lots around here are chalked full of 04 & 05 6.0's. I can only surmise that all of the 2 & 3 year leases are up, and the others, well folks just got tired of fixing 'em. When a used 7.3 comes in, it generally has something insane on it like 250,000+ miles. I'd take a 7.3 any day, even with the body falling off, before I settled for a 6.0. True they had more creature comforts and a better transmission than the 7.3 powered rigs, but if it isn't dependable those niceties are meaningless.
I voted "Nope, Never, No-way, No how". Common Rail Cummins swap before thousands of dollars for a 6.leaker. I'll go "De-Stroked" if I manage to outlive my 7.3.
Cool! Thanx, but no thanx. I'm looking for a SRW 4X4. I did find a 01 F350 which is overkill for the 18' travel trailer I've got, but it's in good shape with only 70,000 miles. Deal pending -we'll see what happens...
I'd do hand stands for a '79 460 powered F250 4X4, but I don't have the time to take on another restoration. I'm neck deep in a '71 Scout right now...
