Well today I got bored and did some test fitting and what not and finally figured out how to do my air intake, it involved taking off the driver side mount for the radiator. Here are some pictures of progress, Darkness stopped me for the night...
Here is the head of the air intake, I plan on getting some type of screen to put on it.
Here is the radiator mount that I have marked and started cutting on.
Whats marked on this also needs trimmed off for proper fit, also the tap on the radiator needs cut off.
I finally got it cut out, not the best but will get the job done.
I hope tomorrow to get ir finished with pictures, WEATHER PERMITTING, and maybe later on next time I get spare time I might do the same thing to the other side and run dual intakes. Does the radiator mount look like it will need reinforced?
I got it all done. I didnt reinforce the radiator mount as it seems its only holding it in place and not holding the weight. I had to do a little more cutting on the radiator support/grill area to get it to fix. By no means is it a professional job, but I hope it gets the job done. Will I be able to notice any differences in performance?
Had to use some aluminum tape to hold the end to the duct work.
Used a 4 inch hose clamp.
Here is an over view of the whole thing,
I used the aluminum duct work over the stuff everybody else is using because this isnt as flimsy as the other stuff....
would it be ok to run down the road without any type of filter over the end? What could I use? Also I still have the round filter in it. So I dont have to worry about dust getting in the motor, just getting up in the duct work..
The grill should stop most big stuff. you could use some expanded metal over the duct if you're that woried about it. Also if you aren't satifide with the aluminum tape you could rivet the end on.
You might consider putting a piece of screen over the scoop.
I had a homemade ram air setup on my Mustang years ago. The scoop stuck down just a little bit below the front bumper and I put some spare window screen over it. I couldn't believe the amount of dirt and bugs that thing picked up.

I think this one would be about right for your application ... No cutting involved either ...

you need to reinforce the radiator mount , it supports a lot more weight than you think
plus the fore and aft movement of the radiator
besides the enormous weight of the radiator it also contains another 30 pounds of coolant
