I now from what I read that many of you need or want to rebuild your 302 at like 130k plus or minus.
I have 201k on mine and just made a 700mi trip. It got 16.6mpg traveling 70+mph on the highway. Same as it did when I bought it with 58k on the clock back in 94.
It's a 92 F150 Flareside (Iris) with 302, AOD, 3.55s. I run 15 x 8 smoothies with 275/60R-15s and have a 2 1/2 in pipe from the cats on back with no muffler.
I put an water pump on at 120k, alternator at 160k and (Accurate) rebuilt trans at 180k, pinnion shaft bearings at 142k, front upper and lower ball joints at 142k. It burns no oil in 5k changes with Pure One filters and Mobil 1 Synth.
Are some of you reaching more mileage with no real problems. I still tow a trailer to races with three bikes and tools and spares (2500lbs) and some stuff in the bed about 6 times a year. Approx 700 to 1300 round trip each time.
My truck (Barney) after the Dinosaur because of the Iris color, never fails me.
i had one that i rebuilt after 330k (km's) due to a loss of oil pressure (cam shaft bearing went). all i can say with your's is don't worry about it, unless the motor starts to show it's age... get a leakdown test done on the engine, that will tell you what shape your rings and cyl. are in...
Right on. My '92 ('ol Betsy) just rolled 200K with no problems. She's starting to act up a little, so I think I'm going to treat her to a tune up this weekend....
Did you change your ball joints yourself? I'm thinking about giving it a shot....

I took the front end apart myself, took the spindle assys to a tire shop had them press out the old bearings $60 both sides, had them put in the new ones I got from Advanced Auto $54 a set for each side and put it back together. Had the front end checked and it was spot on.
I try do do all the work myself if I can. Saves money and I enojoy doing it. Sometimes I don't have the time and pay to have the work done but very seldom.
my 96 with the 302 has just turned 120k, and when the engine gets warm, I hear some sort of small "knocking" sound coming from the bottom end, so I put in a real oil pressure gauge, and running 10w40, I get about 35lbs @ idle. It doesn't use any oil during changes. I know these engines have great longevity, I just worry when I hear the noise. Truck runs strong as ever otherwise.

As long as you have good oil pressure, and your compression is good (i can tell it's decent because you're not burning oil) then you're rolling along really well. I wouldn't say 130k for a rebuild, the average is more to 150-200k with these engines if properly maintained and not beat on. I would recommend 3K mi oil changes rather than 5k. I changed my sisters 99 mustang's oil at 4k and it was burnt, and smelled burnt, which i dont like, so i change mine at 2800-3k where the oil is just about starting to smell/look burnt.
Primary rig is Green Thunder:
95' F-150 XLT 4x4, 302, 5 spd, MSD 6A, Flowmaster American Thunder Exhaust, Sunroof, Clear corners w/ Diamond headlights, CD player with 2 10" subs and some 32" BFG Muds .
That's it for mods now, saving for a Stang. Check out my Gallery for a look-see.
Depending on how the engine has been run, and what the maintenance record is, any engine will last well beyond 150K before needing a rebuild. I didn't put my supercharger on until 130K, and didn't think twice about it. Now have over 140K on it, and it still run great. My '89 Ranger with a 2.9 V6 lasted 238K before anything was done, then I sold it and have not heard of them rebuilding it yet.
