I had to log in to even check the first one. It shows me logged in, but after a few seconds the address bar automatically redirects me (after showing the correct link) to the forum index. I even just logged out, then back in, and the same thing is happening.
It shows the correct address to begin with, so I don't understand what's causing it to change on its own.
How many other folks use the email system for replies? My email box gets so many work related emails that I dont need anymore for my threads. I just saved the UsersCP link as a favorite, and when I get ready to check responses it logs me in and shows all the threads that have been responded
to.
Wow, some of you guys must get a bunch of emails each day especially for a hot topic.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but IE is junk. It has tons of holes that stuff can get in through. Mozilla Fire-Fox is much better. It has a built-in spell checker plus it won't have all those openings in it that bad stuff can get in through. I only run Mozilla on my computers and it works with everything I've encountered so far.
I too like Fire-Fox, but some of the radio streaming I sometimes listen to will not work with it and they will with IE, so that is the only time I use IE anymore. It is probably because of my inability to install the proper software or drivers, but I ain't gonna worry about it. But I sure hope we salvage the search workings!!

Thumbs up for Firefox; beats the hell out of IE whatever version; true computer junkies (not the ones using LINUX) use Firefox; lot less problems than with IE.
This updated FTE and its problems reminds me of the old saying "the only think constant in this world is change". I sure hope that the bugs get worked out because this is one superb website.
I'll agree that there are better browsers out there (my preference is Safari) but everything is supported in IE and it's easier to not switch browsers just so you can watch a video or something like that. Anyway, it's not an IE issue, since the correct link is initially displayed in the address bar.
Brandon, yes the email box can get busy soemtime. That's why I keep my work and personal stuff separate with different email addresses. Also, until you log in to the forum, the forum will only send you a single email to notify you of a thread that has been replied to, rather than a reply for every single reply. TDS used to send an email for every single reply and that was annoying.
A single email about each thread is fine for me. Plus, the email link typically takes you straight to the first post you haven't read, which I don't believe happens when you go through the User CP. My experience with User CP is going to the thread then having to click view first unread post. Not difficult, but if I can eliminate a step, I will.
I haven't totally cleared my cookies and browser history, but I also don't see how doing that would cause the correctly displayed link in the address bar to stop auto-redirecting me to the forum index.
I've noticed one improvement I really like, when you click on last post it really takes you to the last post instead of somewhere maybe halfway through the thread, and sometimes not even to the last page let alone the last post.

What has? I know the last post feature has always been there, and is on all VB sites. It just has not been working properly here for the last couple of months.

jtharvey - The IT guys have tried to replicate your problem (with IE7) and have been unsuccessful.

Regarding the search issue, from our IT guys:
it looks like the built-in search index tables didn't survive the upgrade. Since it would take hours to enable the fulltext search (which would necessitate closing the forums), I am going to install a new search engine instead - called IBSearch.
IBSearch is pretty neat. It is very fast, runs on separate hardware (so it doesn't cause database load issues for the forums when people search), and it can index previously impossible terms like "K&N" (punctuation confuses the old built-in search.)
Sometime this afternoon, IBSearch will begin to index the forums (slowly, so it doesn't cause an outage.) The indexing will finish tomorrow, at which point search will be fully restored.
I've discovered other new features that are pretty neat.
1. When typing in someone's name to search for threads or posts by username, if you get stumped on the full user ID, there is an autocomplete selection box that pops up with a list of the names that start with the same thing you've typed in to that point.
Example. I was looking to see if Justin Decker was online (jdecker88), and I typed in "jdecker", and while I was trying to remember the two digits at the end of his ID, a small window popped up under where I was typing that had his entire user ID listed.... all I had to do was click on his ID and it went into the window where it was supposed to go. Cool!!
2. The Thread list at the top right hand is no longer just a linear list... the last several numbers offer an opportunity to skip by progressively larger numbers of threads. The same feature is in the Members List area when searching through the list in the member usernames. In both cases, this really helps decrease the searching time (if you have a long way to go through the list).
