Found the colour I needed!

I was surfing the net and stumbled across this nice looking 54 Glacier Blue pickup. I have recently discovered that is the original colour of my pickup. So hopefully the paint supplier can match the colour to almost exact. I have a spec reading from PPG USA with the correct amount of tints to go in. Wish me luck!

This picture doesn't do the colour any justice as I had to take the photo from my cell from the puter screen and down load it into my gallery.

The letter C is the Rating Plate colour code for Glacier Blue ~ 1953 ONLY.

The 1948/56 Ford truck parts catalog lists Glacier Blue for 1953 & 1954.

1954 Glacier Blue is colour code D.

While having two different colour codes, the Ford part number for the paint is the same for both 1953 & 1954: M-2J-184

1953/54 Ford passenger cars also used Glacier Blue.

The codes are the same as the trucks: C for 1953, D for 1954.

It would be great if I can get the paint from the US. I don't think I'll be able ship it over.

Hi Aussie,

Shoot now in the land of internet, if you can order a wife from China, you should be able to get a gallon of paint. Although your environmental standards are a lot tougher than ours here.

If you can't get hooked up with PPG, try DuPont. I've painted all my trucks with their paint (because my dad did in the shop) and have been very happy.

But something else I discovered. Sometimes, they may have a listing for a color, but don't have the mixing formula for it. Be sure to ask them to cross reference the color to other years and vehicles. Your 53 Glacier Blue just might be 79 Toyota Ice Blue now. I'm painting my 51 in a 1953 Olds "Royal Marine Blue." But in order to get the mixing formula, the cross reference now is to 1971 Nissan "Island Turquoise!" I had a quart of the 53 olds color and put a dab of each side by side and it's a perfect match.

Are you anywhere close to a base where US Navy P-3s fly in? I may be able to help if you have a big problem getting your paint!

I received prophet formula from PPG US and it's a Honda colour called Grigio Crono. I have Brother in Law who lives is Guam and was attached to a Navy or Airforce base there. That is about as close I can get.

My uncle one of senior paint chemists for PPG in Atlanta GA., and he tells me that PPG codes and the paints are sold all across the globe. Also, I understand that Tower paint ships international but not by air. Tower Paint Spray Can Pricing

And I do know that they can match any old code back to 1903 and I have used them a lot. They can even aerosolize the paints in small quantities to do a test color.
