Hello all, I have 04 Truck engine built sept 03 it has 49k on it has a Banks Monster exaust I have been aroud diesels all my life but I have never seen a diesel engine that doesn't turn the oil black after a short time. This one stays clean even better that my V10 what gives. Is this normal for the 6.0? I checked for an oil bypass soot filter and I don't have one.
anybody got an idea?
thanks.
Mine stays fairly clean for quite a while. These arnt your diesels of 20 years ago, high pressure injection and the modern ULSD makes them run cleaner. Think about it, if they dont smoke out the pipe anymore, why would they load up your oil?

My 05 had a little over 9K on it when I bought it. The dealer had just changed the oil so I changed it at 14K. I took 1 look at the old oil and thought "there's something bad wrong with this thing." I sent a sample off to Blackstone and it came back perfect. Now after 40K miles I've figured out that it doesn't get dirty any faster than my wife's car.
put a good 23K on mine, 18 since last july. it always looks pretty clean on the dip stick, but it's fairly dirty when i drain it @ 5K. still cleaner than my chev gasser was, probably about the same as my 95 ford 351 was. and a heckuva lot cleaner than my brother's 95 7.3 is!
Having come from driving a 7.3L PSD, I too was blown away as to how clean the oil stays. My oil stays pretty clean until about 4k miles and my Blackstone Reports show that the oild is exceptionally clean and not even sheared that bad at 5800 miles. I'm pleased and see no need for a bypass filter like on the 7.3L.
It's clean not clear but clean. Not black like a diesel is suppose to be I use royal Purple 15/40. In my old IDI 7.3 it was black before I closed to hood after the oil change. these are a completely different animal I guess. it runs well and carry's good oil pressure.
