what's the easiest way to clean the outside of a greasy motor. I was told to use Easy Off oven cleaner, put won't that eat the gaskets? I have the engine on a hoist right now.
Yeah, I'd be leery of Easy Off on an assembled motor, it's *great* on old gaskets and baked on crud with loose parts
If you'e careful with the overspray a power-washer will do a decent job, used car lots do it every day......
stuff rags in the exhaust ports, and don't spray straight at them. Use a dust cover on the carb if it's still mounted, or use a block off plate on an open intake, then soak it with Simple Green and power wash or steam it.
Rent a diesel fired steam cleaner from a company like United Rentals. A good steam pressure cleaner would cost a minimum of $1500 for a USED one.
I stumbled across one that needed to be rebuilt from the ground up, and it gets it's fair share of use around here.
ive always just used a couple of cans of gunk's engine brite you spray the stuff on let it sit for 15 minutes then wash it off you can just use a regular hose it works very well. just make sure all ports are blocked off coolant passages exhaust ports and intake.
use Simple Green. I bought a gallon of the undiluted stuff at AZ. The jug tells you how to dilute it based on what you're trying to clean. You spray it on and blast it with the hose. It took 2-3 rounds of doing this but it got off just about everything. Plus, your truck smells pretty for a long time.
