What does this part do?

I just got done repalcing the F/R shocks on my 03ST. When doing the rears I had a heck of a time getting access to the top bolts until I removed this thing just to the rear of the shocks and bolted between the frame rails. It is the bunch of parts that would be on top of the spare tire when it is in place. I'm thinking of some type of emissions stuff?

By the way I went with Monro gasmatics. They where 50% off at Sears about a month ago. I was hesitant but for $70 I figured I would give it a try. So far I think they are a good replacement that is equivalant to stock.

2 canisters connected with a hose, and a valve on one end, sitting in a tray? Don't know what it does but it looks like emissions "stuff".

Yup..

The "Fuel Vapor Storage (charcoal) Cannister" and related parts.

The hose feeds from the "Fuel Vapor (purge) Valve"(s) in the fuel tanks to the cannisters.
