Tire Pressure Question
Tire Pressure Question
Hi All,
I recently threw on a set of 305/45/22's on my 98 navi and had was wondering what tire pressure i should use. The placard in the door says to run 38 in the back and 32 in the front for the stock tires. Should this be the same for the 22's as well? The MAX pressure on the tire itself is 50 psi. I was just looking for recommendations from others of what tire pressure they had good results with. looking for the balance of comfort and MPG.
Thanks for any suggestions

This has been a debate topic for awhile on FTE. The TP on the door is for the tires that came with the truck, or new tires of similar size. Tires that have less volume will require more PSI, not a lot, but more.
I would contact the tire installers and/or the tire manufacturer to find out the recommended TP.
You made a changed your set up that is different than stock, so TPs will be obviously different.
I usually run my tires at or near Max Cold pressure on the sidewall of the tire.
Like I said, try to ask the tire installer what they set the TPs at, or contact the manufacturer.
You will get a lot of responses for both "for follow sticker on door" and "for follow sidewall". It would confuse me too. (I say sidewall) JMO.

I'd also go with what the sidewall says, or close to it. I upgraded to an LT-rated tire when the P-rated stockers wore out. The sidewall says max psi is 50 when cold. I started out running 35psi all around to get a feel for them, but ended up running them at 40 which I felt was the smoothest riding and best fuel economy pressure. You may have to play around with the pressures as I did to determine what works best for you. But, I agree, check with the tire installers or the tire manufacturer and get their opinion, as well..
i called pirelli went i put the 20's on mine. they told me i can either stay stock(35psi), or i can adjust for tire size. they said i could add 1psi per tire size, so i run 38psi as the stock tires were 17's. i can inflate up to 50 psi, but the truck rides rough enough.....i don't need my teeth to fall out!!
