1966 engine perches

I am putting a 1991 5.0 EFI in my 1966 F100. I am told if I use the engine perches that came from a 1966 F100 with a 352 and 1969 302 motor mounts it will bolt right in. Will this work and if so where can I get a set of 1966 engine perches?

What engine do you currently have in the truck? The six cylinder (240/300) use the same engine perches as the "FE" engine (352/360/390/406/410/427/428). The 352 would have been an option on your pick, but externally the other engine listed above are the same. There are two sets of hole of the cross member/ frame where the engine perches go, one set was for the six cylinder engines while the other set was for the 352.

When I first started working on my pickup I put a 302 in place of the 240 six cylinder the originally came in my pickup. I do not remember if I left the engine perches in the same spot or not. Since I used the C-4 that was on my 302 instead of the three on the tree I had to have a new driveline made.

The 302 uses the same bell housing pattern as the 240/300 six cylinder so if you currently have the six in your pickup it will bolt right up to your transmission.

I know the 302 will drop right in on the six cylinder/ 352 perches as I have done it. I believe when they offered the 302 in the next body style it had its own set of perches but I am not sure on that one. Hopefully this helps you out.

That would be great if I could find a Salvage yard that has not crushed everything before 1980.

When I bought the truck the old owner removed the perches and welded in a 351 windsor. So the issue I am having is finding a set of perches. Thank for the info that the mounts will work if I find them.

First and foremost Welcome to FTE. Found few salvage yrds willing to take the time to run a search for the part. Suggest doing some research on the item; for example, what yrs Ford trucks 302 was available, and whether interchangeable with anyother vehicle, this would expand the field and better chance of getting few hits, even better if part does not have to be local. With any luck the person will give you the list of sources, if not, then inquire his cost with markup and shipping. 'Hollander Interchange' may still have a link to salvage part locator you may want to try their webpage.

I am posting a link to a webpage I stumble across, but it's not too helpful unless you can do some research and expand the inquiry. There are couple of other salvage locators but have not been able to find in my 'bookmarks' , if found, will post. May try ebay, lucky on couple occasions when it appeared seller was parting out his truck I would email him and inquire.

If your truck has a 351 W installed the 302 is the same mount.

If you use the I6 or 352 perch the engine will be one inch too high in the chassis. It may work but it is not right. It will create more than the recommended degree of alingment on the drive shaft to differential.

Find a set of perches from any small block equipped truck or 351M400 truck from 68 to 79.... Millions of them out there.

We just spent the better part of this week going through this same thing we tried the 240 mounts and as Garbz is saying 1 in to high you don't need these issues. We have been fighting with a wrecking yard all week I'm oh never mind. The short of it is we stumbled upon a 69 F100 with a original 302 and wha la we found the perches we need. they are about 2" shorter than the 240 perches. We also used a combo of 1974 F150 motor mounts NAPA Pn 602-1265. The second option we had for perches was 77-79 351M 400 perches. If all else fails I believe some of the Venders sell them New. Maybe some of the others will chime in here but you may want to put bolts in place of the rivets on the first cross member for future engine removale???? That's a guess on my part. The next thread we can start is how to line up the drive line and build a cross member for a AOD. I will update my Gallery with some pictures of our mock up I hope we have helped.

Unless you are worried about the quality of the work on the 351W perches, or you have already trashed them, your best/cheapest/easiest route is using them. If you don't like the quality of their fabrication, or have other issues with them, you have the pattern, build another set and fix whatever issues you have with them.

If it will help I'll try to post a link to some pictures of the 240 engine perches out of a 66 f100 and the 302 perches out of a 76 f100. If you can find or see the pictures, the black painted perches are out of the 76 w/302, the unpainted are the 66 w/240. I will be using the painted perches out of the 76 to install a 351W into my 66. I forgot to take dimensions, if you want them I can measure them Tuesday, let me know. thanks

As far as I know they don't sell the perches new. You'll have to find them in a salvage yard.

Is it just me, or do the 302 perches look taller than the 6 cyl perches? I thought it was sposed to be the other way around.
