Trans issues after DP

I know it's a lnog post, but bare with me. Well I finally had a little extra money for a DP, Gauges, and a BTS VB. I was going on a trip to Colorado and needed a little extra power, plus I figured I would get a little better economy and save a little $. I ordered my DP and Jody was great as usual. The chip came before the VB and the VB was not going to be here before I had to leave. I could not get a hold of Jody, but I have read that people put the chip in and just keep it in stock till they get the valve body. I install the chip and then fire the truck up pull out of my drive way and go for a test drive well it would not shift out of first till I was at redline and then it slamed into second and the od light started to flash. I was like WTF?! I came to a stop and then got on it a little (still in stock setting) and it would shift, but way too early and then just hunt for gears. IT would go into od at like 30mph and then kick out and go back in. the od light would stay flashing till I would shut the truck down. when I would restart the truck it would be off, but I had the same out come everytime. I took the chip out the next morning, and the trans still shifted the same. I talked to Jody and he said that because I had an 03' that I could not run the chip without the VB for whatever reason he gave that I don't remember, and to pull the battery cables to clear the code. That night I pulled the cables and they were off for 30 hours, but there was no change in the shifting. The VB came in a day or two later, but even after I installed it there was no change in the trans in any setting. I ended up going to the Dealer and they scanned it and found the vss was bad which I knew, and they told me that was the problem. I told them the ABS was on for a while without any trans problems, but they thought that was the problem. That was the only code they could find. I replaced the vss and the abs light went off, but no change in the trans. I was getting my ball joints done yeaterday at a friends shop (he was a ford mechanic for years) he used his scanner and found a few codes the dealer didn't even find!!!!!!!!!!!! There was a trans output shaft sensor code, and the VSS. He cleared everything, but the trans is not shifting any differently. He said it could be a hard fault that is not setting any codes. It is going to my trans guy on tuesday for some warrenty work on the rear-end, and he is going to look at it further then. I am just so not happy right now, I have never had one problem from the trans. Not one bad shift, nothing!!! It was instantly when the DP went in. I don't have the money for a trans right now!!!!! I have lost almost $2k in runs because I don't want to tow the heavier units when I am trying to figure this out. Does anyone have any idea whats going on?

IDK. I wouldn't think the DP would cause a failure in the tranny. At least not as quick as it happened in yours. I usually say pull the chip which you have done.

Perhaps your tranny was about to have a problem anyway, but it is very coincidental. So I guess about the best I can do is bump this for now. Good luck.

I would take the Chip and VB out of the truck and return to stock first, and see if that caused the problem.

I dont know if this has anything - but many people have little issues like this when they dont clean the connections good enough. OR they overclean the connections and wear off some copper. Is this possible? Did u ask jody if it was possible that u got a bad tune? Just throwing some ideas, Goodluck

Well, I didn't see in your post, but did you change the sensor on the output shaft? It's just like the ABS one in the diff, and I'll bet that if it's bad, the trans has no idea what it's doing so it will lose its mind like you describe. Very weird that it happened like that though. Are you *SURE* you didn't miss a step somewhere? I pulled a real slick move and left my MAP sensor unplugged when I put mine in (did the ITP OBA at the same time).

Well I did the trans sensor today after work and that had no effect. It is going to my trans guy in the morning, so I guess we will see then. I hope it is not gonna cost me too much.

Well I'm sure that Jody burned the chip to work with the BTS VB.....I'm wondering if it fried something since you didn't have the VB in yet? Hopefully it won't cost you too much!!! Let us know

I have not posted an update to my situation in a while because I was sick of thinking about it, but now I feel like catching you all up. I took my truck to my trans guy about a week and a half ago and he spent some time on it and found out that the PCM is not telling the trans to do anything! So the trans goes into limp mode when it recieves no input for a while. He pulled Jody's chip out and there was still no change. I talked to jody and he said that he has never herd of this before, and when he gets back from smokin' he is gonna send my a new PCM and we will go from there. I hope I can get this fixed soon because I am sick of driving my truck like this. Wish me luck!

I hope you didn't smoke your PCM when you did the install. You *DID* make sure your keys weren't in the ignition when you did it, right?? And did you work on it carefully? A good zap of static could wreak havoc.

Yep I did everything as outlined in the instructions, I have worked on computers and such in the past so I know how to handle things. Jody said that the truck will run and be great, or it will not start at all and that there is no middle ground. I guess we shall see.
