i'm having prob with my t case binding up in the deep mud, divorced case, the case is loose and i need to drop it anyways, my questions is, will i benifit from a brace from the case to the frame, like some came with stock? and would i benifit at all from removing the rubber spacers and making them solid?
I think the transfer case needs to move a LITTLE bit hence the rubberspacer, i would check to see how soft those spacers are as i know there supposed to be rather hard actually. If there rotter or something they could be real soft, letting your tcase move and bind.
yea not good, are you sure there tightened down? Are the threads stripped out? Or is it the rubber flexing? If its the rubber replace with new, should be much stiffer, if the rubber is still hard, make sure everything is tight and not stripped out.
Yeah, I'd think replacing the bushings should solve your problems. I guess you COULD solid mount it, but you'll get a lot of vibrations and might end up breaking them.
Don't listen to them! hehe.. there's nothing in there to vibrate.. unless there's something wrong with your shafts. I solid mounted mine with a custom cross member and it's been fine. I see in your sig you are running 38" tires.. like me.. they create more vibration than anything in the driveline possibly could .
I should also mention that in the winter I run smaller radials to run around town in and there's no vibration in the drivetrain to speak of that I can feel.
Another with it in, but not everything hooked up yet:
This has nothing to do with this thread really, but here's the side shot.. the t-case is 1/2" from the cab. I guess a guy could make a recess or somehow clock the case, but for now, this is good.
hey listen to the guy that's done it before, I was just suggesting what I know works - nice truck, btw!
Thanks mate! It's stuck in almost 4' of snow right now though! hahaha. I spent a few hours after work shoveling. I'll have to go back in the morning. It's become clear that I need a winch.. maybe even more than crossover!
My 77 Highboy didn't have that brace that is being talked about. I've seen it on a few older models. Did they come with all highboys are just some. What's the purpose if not all came out with them?
Ya I'm not sure on the brace.. wasn't it a front to rear brace? I can't remember now. It seems to me that the cross member is pretty skookem and should be good with the rotational forces. Mind you I just have a wee 300 6, not a 460. If I were you I'd just drop the thing and evaluate. I'd say hard mounting is not a problem and then figure out if you need some kinda brace. If you didn't have one before and it's just the bushings I wouldn't worry about it.
I live in BC canada in the kootenays. This winter has been crazy.. usually there's almost no snow by now but in the mountains, in the shade, in places where you least expect it, you can apparently sink down to the cab and beyond!! ;-) I'm still not sure how I'm going to drive it out even after I shovel enough space to get a run at it.. need to get on top of the snow .. should be interesting..
Snow? It was 82* at my house yesterday. "Cold snap" today so the high is going to be in the 70s
I do remember seeing a brace on Pros truck. Im not sure if its factory or something he built. It was a short piece of tubing that bolted to the rear of the case and angled up towards the frame. Ill see if I can get a pic
