I recently put a new ignition switch t my 66, it was running fine for about a month, but I tried to warm her up one morning, I turned the key and she almost started running. But when I turned the key to the off position, the starter was still running.
I couldn't get it to stop, so I had to disconnect the batttery. I tried to reconnect the battery ( no key in the ignition this time ) an d it tried to start on its own.
I'm thinking the switch is bad or the solenoid went south. Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.
it sounds like the remote solinoid went south contacts inside stuck together to make sure check with a test light check to make sure the small wire from ignition switch
is hot only when key is in start pos. if so check cable from solniod to stater if it is hot all the time the solinoid is bad. PAUL
Had the same problem, put a new solenoid on it and same problem a week later. Someone made the sugestion to check the starter. So I took the starter off and had it checked. It was bad and drawing too many amps, but would still turn over. The extra amps heated the solenoid contacts and stuck them together. Good luck.
