A low milage truck is not always a good truck I can tell you that much I would pass. If you are up for a little drive up to Knoxville I know of three 7.3s that are in good shape for a decent price. A 2000 CC SB Lariat just like Jeff's truck, Oxford White and gold, cab lights, auto, bucket seats with a 120K without a scratch on it for 18K.
All right JD, PM me the info. I'm in Knoxville right now and have been most of the day on business and now visiting my wife's family.
I think the price is too high after research. I see it as being in the mid 23's or low 24's.
Sounds like a deal, I was all over it when I found mine, I paid a little more , three years back for my 03. But , never look back. I am still love'n it. even at 4.19 a gallon. Right truck almost the right price......do it
The 7.3's can be hard to find around here. Mine was 17,500 a year and a half ago with 140,000. It was the best deal I found after looking for a few months. There is a guy in Louisville, KY, who usually has a couple on his lot - they come from an auction house - buyer beware. Have you done a search on autotrader and similiar sites?
I asked for more information on it since it had a drop in liner over a spray in and if it was the original owner on trade in. Here's the response from the dealer:
"I had a Autocheck pulled on the truck and it was leased on 07-30-02 with 9 miles on it. It was then registered in Maryville,Tn on 09-02-05 with 16,532 miles on it. It was registered again on 02-08-07 with 25,442 miles in Knoxville,Tn. Then the owner traded it in to us on 02-28-08.
They clean up guys tell me that the spray in liner was scuffed and torn so they put a drop in liner in to cover that up."
The more I delve into the history the more worried I get about even thinking of buying it. Why the heck would this thing be traded around like this with such low miles?
Sounds like a pretty nice truck. I would get an Oasis on the truck and see if it checks out. Also, there are several places that can run a diagnostic check on the engine, trans, etc.
These usually cost around $75.00. Then you will know what shape it is in and how bad you really want it. Do you have a trade-in or is it a cash deal? If a trade-in, he might not come down his side but maybe you get a little more for yours. Bottom line, you are looking for the difference when you have a trade-in.
I would offer $2500.00 less than he is asking if it checks out and go from there.

Well its a three owner car. The first guy bought it as lease and placed about 16,240 miles on it in 36 months. The second owner bought it and put 9000 miles on it in about 17 months. The third owner used it for about 13 months and put about 20,000 miles on it in that timeperiod.
The dealer its at now performed the following before putting it out for sale:
Oasis is clean and Carfax is clean. Is this one of those you think its too good to be true but its not?
I've got a line on two others but they are both 2002 models, one with 66K the other at 83K. Both are one owners. Is a one owner a better choice to you guys?

Reason: added information
I am the third owner of mine. I bought it directly from the second owner. He claimed (and Carfax registration confirmed) that he bought the truck to pull his trailer while his Dodge was in the shop. He owned it less than one month.
I payed $20K in the summer of 06. At the time it had 102K on the odometer.
Oil sample with Blackstone revealed a great running PSD. Truth is, you NEVER truely know when you buy used. My first oil change I found a piston cooling oil jet laying in the oil pan. Had the motor pulled and jets replaced. That cost a thousand bucks. So I really paid $21K for it (plus expense to get to Houston). Still a great deal on what has been a great truck.
Only you can decide if it the right truck for you. I flew from Houston to Atlanta to buy mine because it had everything I wanted and was the right price.
That seems a little high, i bought my truck (01 f-350 singal cab xlt) with 98k on it for 15k, but then again I looked for months apon months for that right truck. I know I would much rather buy from a private seller then a dealer too, because you get honesty from the owner and a cheaper price. I don't know how many times while looking I heard the "It was owned by an older man who used it to pull his horse trailer" or "It was owned by an older man who plowed his driveway". But thats just my opinion so, the choice is up to you.

I would mostly agree with the private owner statement honesty, however, the cheaper price statement is a wash. There are an awful lot of owner's out there right now "upside down" in trucks due to depressed economy and fuel prices. They are trying to get out of them but owe too much. Privately owned newer vehicles for sale are at a premium over some dealer prices. I found a 2006 V10 CC 4wd with over 20,000 miles on it (private seller) asking 34,900. I found another (albeit in a different market), same year, 30K miles going for less than 28,000.
