That's an aftermarket 4/way flasher switch. Some were installed by the dealers before new trucks left the showroom. My dad bought a new 58 Fairlane and the dealer installed a Signal Stat 4/way flasher switch in the glove box when it was new.
That is exactly the kind of 4-way flasher that is in my truck. I see you are in PA. I don;t know when PA made vehicles have turn signals and 4-wasy flashers but it looks like that was the common flasher used. I have seen them in many trucks of that era, my Dad's '48 Chevy, my brother's various trucks he used for his construction business, some of the older trucks I drove for a lumber yard.
Look in my gallery for the pic of the interior you should be able to see the flasher. I would keep it as it is vintage and a part fo the trucks history.
Flare-Stat & Signal-Stat both manufactured aftermarket Lighting Products for Vehicles for years, they merged @ one point as I recollect & they were the Primary source for Dealerships & the Buying Public to obtain products not neccessarily offered by the Auto Manufacturers for our Era of trucks.
