Exclamation Help Solve This Mystery !

Got a wierd one for everyone. I found a light bulb and socket dangling under the dash on on the right side of the steering column that I cannot figure out where it goes. It lights up when I pull the light switch and has a green/red wire like the 2 on the back of the cluster. There are no open sockets on the back of the instrument cluster and it lights up properly. Is there anything else that is suppose to light up that this bulb could go to ? Oh yeah, the lighter light is working too. I am stumped. Help !

Does you high beam indicator light come on ? Red light. Or is it the turn signal indicator light? Green blinking light.

Emergency flasher is working as is the bright light indicator. Like I said, everything in the cluster works and there are no holes for a light socket. Was there a light for the heater controls maybe?

Hey Cliff I just wanted to let you know that I have that exact same thing on the back of my instrument panel wiring as well. I think that maybe it's just an extra light socket you know incase you upgraded your insturment cluster to the one with the amp and oil gauges mounted in them. That's the only thing I can figure out cause I know like in newer cars these days even if the car or truck isn't equiped with the Item sometime you have either the extra wires for it or the blank space on your dash for it if you know what I mean. Hope this helps but if you do happen to find out let me know cause as far I can figure out that's the only thing I can assume at this point. I just removed the bulb to keep it from burning back there on the harness and possibly melting wires and stuff.

Thanks Trucks! That may very well be the case. I had juts never noticed it before until I got under the dash today to tidy up some loose wiring with some tie straps. I did the same thing, pulled the bulb although, it wouldnt light up unless the socket was grounded.

Clif, does the light stay on with the engine running. Wonder if possibly the idiot light for alt. Did the extra bulb socket surface after swapping any of the component in the instrument cluster. There may be an extra socket for the Custom Cab cluster for the Amp, or Oil guage.

May come in handy if you don't have an oil gauge instrument light and intend doing so.
