My 65 has the extra socket too. I untangled it completely from the harness so that it hangs a couple inches below all the wiring, yet high enough to not see up under the dash. I use it like billy12360 suggests, an extra interior light.
It's an accessory interior courtesy light, there was only one.
The whole tamale bolted to the bottom edge of the dash.
COAZ-13763-A.. Bracket, Courtesy Light
COAZ-13547-A .. Lens Assy
Same as: 1960/64 Galaxie/ 1960/65 Falcon/Fairlane / 1965/66 Mustangs used something similar.
The bracket was stepped, about 3 inches wide, 4 inches long, had a hole in it...the lens clipped to the bracket, the wire and socket clipped to the lens.
ILLUSTRATION = SECTION 134 / PAGE 4 / Look at the lower right...see the lens & socket? This is the same principle the courtesy light used, except the bracket took the place of the bumper.
COURTESY LIGHT & ATTACHING PARTS: There an exact pic in the 1965/72 cars parts catalog: Section 137, Page 4 > >
> > There's no pic in the 1964/72 truck parts catalog because it was an accessory, and accessories weren't always shown in the parts catalogs back then.
I'm pretty sure that wire you are refering to IS a blue/red wire since it has a light socket on it. I thought for sure I had one as well until I got to a section that wasn't effected by sunlight. You should have 3 instrument light for the main dash, 1 for the cig lighter, 1 for the radio, and ???
What stock guages do you have in your truck now? Any overdrive or other accessories like that installed?
plus, as I recall green/red wires were all cluster lights...or the optional alt/oil pres. gauges.
A courtesy light I would think would be inline with the domelight circuit...just my 2 cents..
whats the illus. # Bill ?? at that pg in mine all I see is tail light routing for the unis and styleside 64-6 - cs65
That's correct, I used that pic to show what the courtesy light lens/bezel under the dash looks like.
The underdash courtesy light's lens/bezel (COAZ-13547-A) is virtually identical to the licenseplate lens/bezel and socket (13550 & 13564) in that illustration (shown in the lower right in my catalog).
In the car parts catalog, there's theexact illustration of all the parts used on 1965 Fairlane/Falcon's, which were identical to 1960/64 Galaxies, 1960/64 Falcons, 1962/64 Fairlanes and 1961/66 F100/1100's.
In the truck parts catalog, there's NO illustration of the underdash courtesy light at all.

Mark, check out these two illustrations in the 1965/72 Car Parts Catalog.
