I have bought a 74' F-100 from my brother and we took the 360 out and swapped with a running 390. My brother has let it sit for three years but i rebuilt it and it is in the truck. It will crank over but won't start. I am pretty sure that everything is hooked up right, but it has been three years.Someone please help.
Have you checked for spark???? If you have spark is gas getting to the carb??? If there's spark try priming the carb by pouring a SMALL amount of gas down the carb and see if she'll fire. She may just not be able to pick up her fuel after sitting for so long.
I don't want to come across as harsh that is not my intent
so please dont take it that way
But! If you can rebuild a motor you should be able to figure this out?
come on, that is one of the reasons I love these old trucks!
they can not be much simpler and there is no computers
just follow as duste said you should be able to get it if you rebuilt it right
was it ever running since the rebuild?
It came straight out of a f-250 running and driving from Cali to Texas. I have spark, and fuel is pumping to the carb. I also tried to prime the carb by pouring a small cap full of gas. All it does is spit and backfire, it cranks but it won't start. If anyone has any suggestions it would be helpful cuz i need it back in service to run calls for my fire depatment.
You were all pretty much dead on. The timing was 180 out, the points were off, and the coil went out. But i got it to run for about 5 seconds and then the coil went out. I'm gonna replace the coil tomorrow morning and it should run. I'll keep ya'll updated and thanks for the help.
