Timing chain deflection

I measured my timing chain deflection on my 302 - out of a 71 bronco. Currently 7/16th of an inch. My haynes manual stated that maximum deflection is 1/2 of an inch.

Sooo - it is within spec, but close to the edge.

Suggestions? Afterall I am a badmechanic

Timing chain deflection

If your engine is already taken apart go ahead and replace it.
A new chain is only a few bucks and is cheap insurance against potential problems down the road.
