All... i have an 01 f250 7.3 with an auto trans. When i start out on the road, the trans won't shift into OD until about i've driven about 7 miles. Is this a normal thing for the trans to warm up before shifting? thanks, Jeff
well actually it shifts into overdrive it just wont let the tq converter lock till the motor or the trans hits a certian temp....mine does the same thing for bout 4 miles
I don't know about tourque conv. lockup, but the tach reads about 2200 rpm's at 55 when cold and then drops to about 1700 when it shifts into OD.
What your seeing is 2200 RPM's at 55 in OD, then your tranny warms up enough and the torque converter locks up, hence the reduction in RPMs to 1700. Completely normal operation.
hmm i cant think off of the top of my head, but I belive mine is close. Remember, shift points and TC lock up points will be different with a chip/tuner.
I'll put it another way... I have to really watch & listen for it, and still have trouble seeing it. It's such a minor change in my truck (before & after having the tuner), that I know it's not 500 RPM. It might be 100 or 200, tops.
well they do say 01-02-03's have have a weak tq converter i guess higher stall?? it might be 1900-2000 its around there tho i hate lookin because i can just see my gas gauge moving down hahaha
