we have a project we are tryin to put a 390cibig block and a c6 automatic tranny into a 86 ford 1/2 ton i know it can be done but if anyone has any ideas on how it can be done easiest they would be much appreciated he wants to put headers on also now i have my doubts they will fit but if u have done it or have any ideas please let me know thanks brandle
It's not going to be easy. That engine family was never installed in these trucks from the factory. People have done it, but I guess it's because they have the engine for free or something. There are plenty of good engines that where offered from the factory that do bolt in with no problems.
I would go up and click on the search box for this forum. Put this exactly like it appears in the search box and see what comes up. +390 +swap
Why a 390 FE motor? There are a lot more performance parts for 351W. But a C-6 from an FE won't fit. You will need a C-6 from a small block. Not to mention lighter.
we wanted to do something origional have you ever heard of a 390 ci in a 86 ford lol plus it was free. its just a toy and we had the engine sittin in the garage for a while i was just curious if anyone had done it so we could pick your brains and maybe avoid any mistakes that you may have made. we are hookin up stacks and all that fun stuff it will be a one in a million truck if we can make it work thanks alot guys
You can do anything if you have the time and the fabrication tools and skill. I figured the reason was a free engine. If you do that search a few posts should come up. I remember there was some talk about it, and one guy may have done it.
I hope the 390 has a rear sump oil pan. I know it won't even begin to fit without one.
well we changed our plan we bought a 84 chassis and motor tranny everything and we are chopping the frame and putting the 86 body on it i think that will be easier so it will be an 86 short boxwith a 460 in it now still cool lol any advice will be apperciated still thanjs guys
