Unless you have a milk cow in your living room, EVERYTHING you consume will have it's price doubled by the end of the year, simply from transport costs.
Even if he had the cow in his living room, he still wouldn't see much benefit over just buying it from the grocery. Think about what inputs require to process the feed and then get the feed to the local co-op and then from you to get it to the house. There really isn't much in the way to cut costs now if the status quo remains.

Well I understood the intent behind it, but in reality the price of milk or the price of eggs(both of which have gone up) would have to almost triple in price in order for that to work(alot of things that I didn't mention as well that add to the cost).
I was talking to my cousin in Germany the other day and she pays about $5.75/gallon for low grade gasoline. She's checking on the price of diesel.
Now, if you want to get political, then ask how much the friendly folks in Iraq pay for their fuel.
I'm reposting this as I just realized I made a mistake. That should have been 5.75 Euros per gallon or about $ 8.95 US dollars per gallon.. (Don't have a Euro symbol on my keyboard).
Who cares? You chose to be an OTR O/O. Deal with it.
that's a dumb remark
Basically the owner/operator whether being leased or independant built the trucking industy
with the price of fuel going up $3 a gallon n 5 years it really ain't easy to deal with
Yea I was watching the news the other day and they were talking about people who had planned to retire but now they can't due to the higher cost of everything and because they had planned to sell their house and move into a smaller one now that the kids are grown and the housing market has dropped so much that it would be a huge hit to sell it now. Yes I give a damn what the price of fuel is it affects us all. rugerman

what a yatz, hey knuckle head...your paying for it at the store...milk, eggs, bread...everything is trucked.
I suppose your independently wealthy....or you get a raise weekly that keeps up with cost of living.
Yes, it's his LIFE, he chose it, but it effects us all, because we all use it.
Now, if he were a gynacologist, it might not effect you...maybe.
The gross rate was $2.10 per mile. About $.50 of that was fuel surcharge, all of which I get. I get 73% of the linehaul. (The total was a bit over $5000.)
In terms of percentages, fuel cost is about 2/3 of my operational cost.
As a comparison, when I started in 2000, fuel cost was about 1/4 of my operational cost.
Freight rates have remained essentially static in the intervening 8 years. MAYBE a 10% increase.

That might be the dumbest thing I have ever read in these forums. Do some research. Everything you use is on a truck of some sort at some point. Been to the grocery store lately? Prices are up. Guess why? Been to the clothing store lately? Prices are up. Guess why? Let me help you. The truckers are getting banged hard because they can't say "I'll bike to work", or I'll take public transportation to work". They have no choice but to take it in the ***. Well, guess who gets it next? We do. The companies pass the fuel charge to the retailer, who passes it to the end user. YOU! Think next time before you speak. Either that, or go the doctor for that raging case of athletes mouth u got!
I def agree, some people really need diesle trucks like farmers, truck drivers. But outside of that realm, I can't think of too many people who really need them. You woudn't think that by all the complaints though

Don't forget us horse people. We need them too(atleast I think so).
