Injection Pump Interchangeability Question

I will be buying an injector pump tomorrow an found a few close by. The pump that was removed is a db2831-4817 from a 90-91 E-Series.

db2831-4732 for $325
db2831-4812 for $380
db2831-4821 for $400

The desiel repair shop with the 4732 insured me that the 4732 would work the same as the other pumps above. I could find little information about the current 4817 removed or the 4732 he has in stock. Should I get the 4732 or go with another one. The injectors are new and were purchased for the 90-91 engine.

Thanks in advance for the help. This site and its members are great.

DB2 4817 shows 90 to 92 with an E4OD tranny
DB2 4821 shows 90 to 92 with a manual tranny

DB2 4732 I have no idea, I do not have that number listed.

DB2 4746 was for an 87 6.9 five speed.
DB2 4541 was for 84 thru 87 with a C6 or four speed.

Make sure you can install the tranny VRV on the IP you get.

Thanks Dave.

I think the VRV was one of my previous problems. I bought a new one but wasn't quite sure where it went. I have been doing some reading and now know where it goes but don't see how it will work on the 4817. There is a small hole in the throttle shaft that passes through the IP. Is there a pin or something that goes in that hole to operate the VRV?

The 88 89 truck with a C6 lists a DB2 4812.

That is the last year I have a C 6 listed.

The E4OD also uses an electrical version (FILP sensor) of the VRV to control the tranny.
I don't know if the VRV will fit the same holes or not.

Automatics are my downfall, I have no experience with them at all in trucks.
The last automatic I owned was in a 71 Mustang behind a 302.

Thanks again,

I'll ask tomorrow when I go to get the pump. If answers are unclear, I'll just take my business elsewhere. They are a Stanadyne service cernter so they should know.

I ended up getting the db2831-4732 for $325

I installed it last weekend and if fired up and ran better than ever(hasn't ran in 6 years). I have a lot of other small problems such as no tach, needs sending units, abs light, exc. but it runs fine.

The guy that does all the rebuilding and bench testing/calibration said that there are over 20 different part numbers for the same db2 pump. The are all the same internaly but the fuel setting is set a little different on some. He said they set all their pumps a little high and adjust them for free if needed.

I am getting a little white smoke right at startup. Could be timing or extra fuel. It goes away in about 3-5 minutes so it definately not a big issue. Most likely normal.

I am looking at replacing my DB2-5013 ip with one of the earlier model 7.3 (DB2831-XXXX) non-turbo IPs because my core is has no value (seized head) and founda deal on one of those outright (no core required). The currently installed injectors are code E and almost new. Will this be OK ? - Thanks

Diesel Care and Performance Inc 1-800-961-9290

Most of their pumps don't require a core if you get them from ebay.

eBay Motors: Ford IH 7.3 7.3L injection injector pump NO CORE!! (item 350040903433 end time Apr-04-08 13:16:52 PDT)

I would think that pump would work fine but I would have it professionally tuned and have a pyrometer installed if you don't have one already.

Did you get your IP from Dieselcare ?

My first choice is to buy local if at all possible . My second choice is to buy online etc from a vendor that has no negative chatter on these forums .

They are Ebay seller - Dieselcare - There as some iffy comments about them on the various diesel truck forums .
Another smaller ebay dealer with good prices is Hectorwithinjectors - A diesel shop in Phoenix AZ .

Thanks

I did buy local and prefer to do this if possible. I didn't do any research on Diesel Care, just looking at prices.

Is the 5013 a turbo IP?

I got it from the dealer about 6 to 7 years ago for about $60. The truck has been sitting ever since so it has never been used.

The DB2-5013 for is non-turbo 1994 7.3 E4OD and is supposed to be matched with code E injectors .

I guess I could alternatively use DB2 4817 with a new set of code BB injectors but the currently intalled injectors have less than 10 k miles on them .
