Rebuilt 351W, having problems, need help!!!
I just recently had the 351W in my 1984 F350 rebuilt from top to bottom by a very reputable machine shop. The engine runs good. It has about 5,000 miles on it now but it is using oil. It used 1 qt. during the 500mile break-in period, no big deal. It used two qts. during the first 3,000mile oil change. And now it is steadily getting worse, I have put 4qts. in in the 1,500miles! My fuel mileage has also dropped from about 9.5-10mpg in town to around 6.5-mpg in town. I have looked everywhere and found no leaks. The only thing that I have found is that whenever I step into the throttle it smokes light blue out of the exhaust and occasionally I will see a very very light blue (barely visible) smoke at an idle. Does anyone have any ideas what could be the problem? I almost suspect that the rings aren't seated, but after 5,000miles? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You should probably do a compression and a leakdown test. The rings might not have seated properly if the machine shop did not hone the cyl correctly. Also the valves might not be seating either. Hope this helps!

One other thing; even the best folks make mistakes. They might have a couple cylinders with the rings installed upside down or gaps not spaced correctly. Do the tests and then confront the shop with the results.
