Normal Oil, Engine, etc Temps...

Didn't want to hijack the guys thread on Normal EGTs, so I started this one.

Just curious what others are seeing on their Oil, Engine, etc temps, especially when towing.

I ask because my idiot guages always look to be in the normal range, but when I first installed my Banks PDA and pulled my travel trailer, the oil and engine temps went up enough to activate the default alerts on the Banks PDA.

I modified the alert parameters to a higher level that still looked safe, but I've always been curious what others see on actual temps when pulling loads, etc.

Thanks in advance,
TX

TX,

Next time I drive mine loaded I will post my results. I have pretty much the same stuff on my truck that you have on yours. I would like to thank you for the reply you sent in the Banks Problem Thread . That was very well put.I would like to do the same as you and the other guy that just uses the PDA to monitor...but I just dont have the $$$ for a SCT right now. The Banks works for me though.

Wow! Ask and you shall receive....

Thanks JM for the heads-up on that thread, and many thanks to Bismic for the temp range table.

I feel a lot better now! I'm going to sit down with the PDA and do some better parameter alert settings.

Thanks guys!!

I just installed my last two gauges the other day. For the past two days driving 50/50 highway and surface streets the Trans Temp is 160 degrees, Water Temp is 200 - 205 and the oil temp is 190 to 195 degrees. The water temp goes down to 192 - 195 degrees once I hit the freeway. Ambient temp is in the low 80's.

I just took my 20' Travel Trailer out for a test run with the new gauges. I drove on the freeway uphill doing 65 to 70 mph. Boost was around 24 to 26 psi, Tranny Temp was 170, Water Temp was 210 and Oil Temp was about 218. The fan did not come on at all and the temps were steady the whole way up the hill. Once I got on the level the temps came down pretty quick; water 200, oil 210 and tranny stayed around 170. I have read it's normal for the oil temp to be 20 to 30 degrees warmer than the coolant temp. When pulling the trailer it was a few degrees warmer and without a trailer the oil temp stays about the same as the water temp maybe a little cooler.

I have read in these forums that it's a good idea to keep your RPM's 2,000 and under until the engine warms up. I have both the Coolant and Oil temp gauges and have noticed that the oil temp is usually 30 degrees cooler than the coolant temp while it's warming up. I go by the Oil Temp when warming up. I won't let the rpm's go over 2,000 until the oil temp has hit 170 to 180. By this time the coolant has been at it's normal temp for quite a while. Anyone else who has both of these gauges notice this too?
