Garmin NUVI GPS units are having a price reduction and line expansion. It might be wise to double check which unit has the features you really like. I bought a Nikon D200 three weeks prior to the release of the D300. You could find yourself in the same spot.
My Nuvi doesn't route as well Street Atlas software.
two of my good friends design most of these gps units. I can vouge that they are tested to the brink. I was sent with 3 units for a trip last summer. I dont own one, but if i did, it would be a Garmin.
they are also usa based, and are AWESOME to their employees. These guys have been there for 2-3 years and are getting AWESOME compensation.
I also have a NUVI 350 and compared to the MIOs that some of the guys have at work, the Garmin is the best. Easy to use menus, great day and night viewing.
Cant vouch for the Garmin but can tell you this about my TomTom. Ive named it "TimTim" ala Timmy from South Park. It has led me on 3 wild routes, one being take the tp on ramp which actually was the access road to the Burger King at the service plaza. It doesnt have a back button (i have the XLS). Who makes a computer without a back button??? TimTim does. And the Dunkin Donuts POIs I downloaded from their site are never where they say they are.
Keep your stinking back button just dont frack with my DD.
Sounds like most are happy with their Garmin. If I can find a positive about the XLS, its the sat chip is very fast.
