I have been blowing the same fuse for a few weeks now. This is a work truck that I don't drive, so I don't know if it when they hit a bump or turn or what. I am thinking it could be in the steering column. Maybe they are adjusting the wheel height and it goes. You know employees....no help. It seems like it will go for days, even weeks without a problem. Then it will blow 2-3 times in the same day. Not sure of the number fuse, but it is the pcm. My accelerator and guages go out. Dealer has had it twice but can't find the problem. They replaced the whole fuse block because of a leaking windshield. 900 later it is still blowing the fuse. I know you guys can help. Thanks
A liitle more info would help. model, cab style.auto/manual. I know when I installed a console in my truck, I accidentally ran a screw through the wiring harness that runs across the floor of the cab. blew the fuse that powered the whole instrument cluster. check for any aftermarket installs. flashlight mounted to the floor etc.
First off.....thank you for responding so fast. Posted the question before bed last night, woke up this morning and already have answers. You guys are amazing. Okay. Tried the fuel bowl plug. The fuse still blew. The truck is not dying, I just lose the accelerator and all the guages. It is a 20 amp fuse, again, I don't know the fuse number. There has been no alterations done as of lately. This just started happening out of the blue. The truck is a 99 F450 reg cab with buckets and a center console. Dump bed. 4 wheel drive auto....diesel. I think thats it. I can't believe I didn't put that in the original post. Maybe I should have the dealer try adjusting the wheel tilt and see if it blows. They have isolated everything on that circuit and found nothing wrong....maybe moving the steering wheel will cause it again. Keep the ideas coming......and thank you.
If you are also losing the accelerator and the truck will only idle then it is the fourth fuse from the right on the bottom row of the fuse panel. Change your OD switch in the shifter with a new one and you will probably solve your problem. Your workers are either using the OD button as an additional gear or or just bumping it by accident while driving. Hope this helps.
