My F-150 keeps blowing #16 fuse inside the cab according to the owners manual. If you look at the back of the fuse panel, it reflects #5 fuse. When the fuse blows, I don't have a/c or reverse lights. The owners manual doesn't say what this fuse is for. Can someone help please?
Number 5 fuse protects the circuits for the Transmission Range Sensor on the side of the transmission, the Speed Control (cruise), the Heater/AC controls and the heater blend door.
Can you narrow it down to when it blows? When you put it in reverse? When you adjust the heater?
WE replaced the fuse, left the air conditioner off, and drove home. He did back into the drive way, and then we checked the fuse. It was blown. Where is the reverse sensor located on the manual transmission, and we will disconnect it and see if it blows?
The back up light switch is near the top of the transmission, on the driver's side, sort of above the clutch hydraulic line. There should only be one electrical connector in that area so you'll know when you see it.
Ford Tuff, Gabel seems to have a bit of discrepency between what the fuse box and what the manual says. I'm not sure why.
I disconnected the reverse sensor, but it still blows the fuse after about five minutes. My son turned his ac on and drove about a mile before it blew. Any more suggestions.
disconnected the reverse sensor - Still blows #5 fuse

It blows after about five minutes; we disonnected the reverse switch, but it still blows. I asked my son to drive with the ac on, and about five minutes later, the fuse blew. Any more suggestions.
Thsi may be a tough one to solve. You're probably going to have to find all the wires that come from that fuse and check for a short to ground. If you leave the heater turned off will the fuse still blow? If not, I would check the wiring to the clutch on the A/C compressor.
the reason that the #5 fuse kept blowing is because the "speed control deactivator Switch" was over heating.
There is currently a recall on this for safety reasons , b/c in some cases the fuse would not blow and it would melt the brake fluid reservoir and cause fires.
I disconnected the switch and used electrical tape to tape off both ends and secured the wire in a safe out of the way place using a cable tie. I then replaced the #5 fuse (which controls the cruise control and the a/c) and took it for a ride , and i am glad to report that the Fuse no longer blows!!
My ford dealer said it would be a couple of months before the parts for the permanent fix would be available.
I finally get to use my A/c again , which means alot being i am in Louisiana and its the middle of the summer (temp 98 - 102) Whew!!!
