I am having to put my 76 F250 4x4 highboy that I bought as a project, on the road because of car trouble
well today the weather was finally decent enough to get out there and get some good work done
First I had to chop threw the frozen waste land sitting on top of my black top in front of my shop so I could move my parts truck to squeeze my 250 out
there was 3" of ice out there and I had to move the truck the Egyptian way? (pry bars/levers)
got that done and carefully squeezed the 250 out
I put a brand new edelbrock carb on it and a dual battery set up, she starts and runs great now
hooked up the electric choke, a tag light and new wiper blades along with a few other things
and she is good to go
its funny, that 32 year old truck is holding up better then my 2002 Chrysler concord (its a P,O,S)
that truck has sat all winter and she roared to life with little effort
GOD I LOVE THESES OLD 73-79 FORD TRUCKS!!!
I cant wait to do some more on it
well that was all I wanted to say, I just felt like posting
Later guys!
Great to hear, I get all giddy when I am sitting at school listening to a boring lecture and all I can think about is my truck. My friends think I am such a loser that I would rather work on my truck than hang out. I really love these old trucks too.
these old turcks are worse than any drug addiction. they are the reason i wake in the morning. cant sleep at night with anticipation of what to do next. the weather is getting better by the day. so much to do and only about 5 months to do it. just pulled my donor up to the house so i can start ripping what i think i want to keep off. there wont be much left to take to the crusher. i have been told i am mad
I hear ya, put fresh engine in my 76 in Feb, thought I'd be driving it by now. Spring has arrived on the calender but not in practice. 5" of snow last friday, 4-8" forcast for this thursday. Was looking forward to taking my truck on a 300 mile road trip I've got coming up monday but looks like the trip will be in my "winter beater" Escort. Well, that's my rant for tonight
I keep writing lists of what I need to do for my build up. Can't keep it off of my mind. All I need to do is finish chopping up what's left of the 69 F100 in my driveway, and I can pull the 73 in to start tearing down. Then I start pulling the body off of the 79, ship the transmission back to the shop to be rebuilt under warranty, install headers, rebuild the steering box, install the new intake and carb, new urethane body mounts, bed liner the bottom of the 73 cab, and get it on there. Then it's shackle flip time... Damn, I just made another list. Can't keep my mind off of my trucks... Maybe that's why I've been back on here so much...
And the Saga of the Ford Addiction will never end

I love these types of threads, they make me realize that I am not alone in my never ending need to work on my truck
My wife thinks I am crazy because I am the same way you all are. I lay in bed at night can't sleep thinking about working on the truck. She really thinks I am crazy when I am working on the truck and ranting and raving about it being a pain in the neck but even with all the difficulties I still look at it and say it's going to be really cool when it's done.
Addiction, It's gone far far past that. With the exception of my first truck being a 79 Chev,( I was trying to prove dad wrong--- he was right again, chevs are ****) I've owned at least one 76 or 79 F150 ever since I was 17.
76 F100 300/6 custom
79 F150 351M Lariat
79 F150 302 Lariat
79 F150 429 Lariat (1 very fast truck)
79 F150 460 lariat (current truck)
I come by this disease honestly though, Dad's list is similar but starts with a 1955 F100. S0 for 22 years(**** I'm getting old) I've owned a 79 of some sort. But it's nice too see I have alot of company with the same disease.
I had to scratch that itch again today!!
the weather was nice and I have a lot to do. SO,
I installed a exterior visor, a light bar with 6 off road lights (even hooked them up??) , some grab bars to help heft my big butt in the truck, a new tailgate, and swapped out the busted bug guard on the hood with a different one
there is still a ton to do but she is looking pretty good
I can not wait until the weather gets nicer so I can do the body work and shoot some paint at it
