Ok there is no electric fan there is a thermal clutch fan that lets the motor run without pulling the fan (these fans require several horsepower) and are a lot quieter. At around 205 degrees the fan clutch should lock up intil it gets back under 200 then goes back into freewheelin mode. These motors if the cooling system is working properly will not get hot enough for the fan to lockup in the winter unless you are loaded heavy and in cool weather then only on a long grade. If everything is circulating and radiator is in good shape you can take the fan off in the winter and if not pulling long grades or loading you can run on the highway just fine.
the fan will be really loud when locked up because it is not free spinning.its spins the same speed as the motor when locked up and it moves ALOT of air when its locked.
I don't think I've ever heard the clutch fan lock up and spin fast w/ the motor, but I'll pay close attention now.
It looks like the only way to pillar mount gauges is to buy an '87 pillar mount and fab it to fit. I read on another forum that a guy bought 1987 pillar interior pieces and mounted them as well as the gauge setup for a cleaner install.
It may well have never locked up since you've been driving, but unless you are one of them guys that have a truck full of four foot speakers and keep the stereo turned up so that the guys in the next time zone can listen to it comfortably you would notice it when it locks up at highway speeds.
Most people the first time they hear it lets off the fuel for a second until they think about it.
hey now star there is nothing like pulling up in your truck blaring some brooks and dunn with the subwoofers pounding next to some kid listening to that rap music.people look at ya reeeeeal funny.lol
I'm not crazy about somebody pulling up and vibrating my semi and it has happened and the vibration starts before they get beside me sometimes. I am hard of hearing mainly because of the old trucks and heavy equipment. I can't see doing to this to your ears because you want to. I was getting paid to ruin my hearing these guys pay to ruin theirs.
i for the most part grew out of the big stereo thing when i was in my early 20's i do like havin a 10" subwoofer in my truck though.but during the winter it always comes out to make room for all my hunting crap and extra blankets and tools and such.in the winter i almost have everything i need in my truck. at that point its only a 3 seater instead of a six seater
