WHEN BUFFING WHEELS ATTACK ! yeah, you know where this is going.

I KNOW some of you guys have been there and will get a little grin out of this story!
I was working on polishing the edges of my center console cover plate I had made from diamond plate aluminum. Alsmost done and the buffing wheel decided to take a bite and grab it from my hands...at 3000 rmp's and one revolution later it then smacked me in the head with it...safety glasses went flying....
I put my hands to my forehead where it hit me and thought..."surely I didnt get away with just a love tap"...took my hands down and my gloves told me there's more to see. Grabbed a shop rag, down to the house, grabbed a hand towel and loaded kids in the car. Drove my stick shift one handed to the emerg. center for 6 stiches and a few butterflies on the forehead.
My wife shows up and all I could do is grin about it....
Look at the pic below, the upper left side of the aluminum is bent where my forehead shaped it. I guess it could have been worse but now I have to start over with a new cover idea...?
You gotta grin about it! later, Ed

Holy flying diamond plate Batman!!!

I'm sure glad that it was just merely a few stitches and not an eyeball.

years ago I had a wire wheel mounted on a 3 or 4 foot flexible shaft coupled to a 1 horsepower electric motor. The thing was a great parts cleaner and would knock old gaskets and grime off of pretty much anything......but if the danged thing ever got away from you it could sure tear up your pant leg and across your business before you could even begin to start screaming like a little girl...........(I know alot more about working safe now...lol)

And here I was just lamenting to myself my lack of power tools. One of the ones I always wanted was a buffer/grinder.

I guess I'll be OK sticking with my Flitz Ball for awhile longer.

Glad you are OK.

When I was buffing the stainless carriage bed bolts last summer, I got one snatched out of my fingers and it went right thru the garage window. YOW!!

I think all of us can feel your pain, we've all donated a little flesh and blood to our hobby. I bet you were glad you had the safey glasses on, it could have been a lot worse. Get back on that horse and make another, good luck.

Ed, that's not what they meant when they said "use your head". (don't ask me how I know) Glad that it wasn't any worse. Hope your feeling better.

Hey Ed, I hope you get to feeling better soon. You are one lucky individual. It could have been disasterous.

Ouch! that could have been a disaster.

Bobby, I know what you mean about the wire brushes, worked in an aluminum shipyard in south LA just out of high school. All aluminum plate had to be brushed before installed, leadman kept telling the kid not to lock the trigger on that big ol Milwaukee grinder, but he wouldn't listen. It almost choked him to death when it grabbed his shirt tail and wound it up to his chin.

time to start making up stories........

..well guys, it was like this, there Iwasa driving my old Ford down the street and this wild gang of Chevy guys blocked me in. The were screaming and cussing, it was obvious they were jealous about being stuck in rinky-dink secondrate trucks. All of a sudden there was a huge crash and a Dodge came crashing into the back of the nearest chevy...

...the fight was on! I was dodging blows trying to protect my precious fenders when all of a sudden ________________
