I have recently purchased a 2004 F250 SD.....Black paint. The truck has many clearcoat scratches, and I'd like to get opinions on the best product(s) out there to buff these scratches out with. Thanks!
Eric
That really depends on how big/deep the scratches are. For really light work, a sealer and glazer like Mother's Phase 2 would do. Anything deeper and you'll need a polish. Always start with the lightest and work up if you have to. I'd start with an easy polish like Mother's reflections. If that didn't work, I might try Mother's or Meguiar's scratch repair polishes. I don't know anything heavier that is clear coat safe, but stay away from rubbing compounds.
Agreed, start with something mild, like Mequires Scratch X or 3M Swirl Mark Remover (for dark cars). If that doesn't work, use Zaino Fusion.
Fusion is great stuff, it has a disintegrating abrasive. It's best to use a polisher with it. If you use Fusion, polish it in until there's nothing left on the pad; you must allow the abrasive to disintegrate ALL THE WAY. When finished, you'll have a surface that's as smooth as glass.
My truck had the same problem when I bought it, black clear coat. I took the "lazy" way out and had it detailed. It was only $100 and it looked awesome!! Now I just maintain it and maybe once a year send it out for a more thorogh detailing.
