I replaced my harmonic balancer and main seal this weekend my old balancer had started to seperate and was about to fall apart. i just bought the truck a few weeks ago and now im wondering what kind of stresses this has put on my crank bearings..etc
i have no idea how long this had been like this i probably put 200 easy miles on it.
the motor does not visibly burn oil
as long as it had some rubber still in there you should be OK
I would at the min. put on an after market oil pressure gauge
this will tell you if the bearings are still holding pressure
yeah the rubber was still ther barely it was out the back of the balancer by about 1/4 inch! i have good pressure according to my stock gauge except when warm and in gear at a stop it drops real low going down the road warm it stays in the middle. at idle warm it stays in normal range if not in gear. ive read these stock gauges are no good though id really like to install some aftermarket
That's normal. If you are below 10 psi, the engine has some wear, but I would not worry about it till it dropped below 5psi, and the engine starts making noises.
I run 20-50 wt in my 460 with 187,000 miles & I idle at 25 PSI Hot. It runs down the road at 55 PSI even pulling in the summer the engine temp will sometime reach 225 degrees but the oil stays 55 PSI. So your OK. I have a factory engine oil cooler. I wouldn't worry about it.
well good i want to have a smooth running machine but so far i have only 1150 bucks invested in all so id like to get as much out of her as possible for the time being. im used to small block chevys and was kinda alarmed at the pressure droping so low..i have no engine noises at idle hot and in gear. i will definitly listen for any changes.
