i have a 84 ranger 4 cyl getting spark and getting fuel but wont take fuel after you let off the ignition like your cranking it any ideas?solenoid maybe?
If it won't run when you let go of the key from 'start', it is possibly the ignition switch. They can get loose as they age. Pull the upper and lower steering column covers and look at the switch. It will be on the passenger side, with a bundle of wires fed into the bottom. If the wire bundle has pulled the switch partially apart, push it back in place by hand, hold it, and see if the engine will now run in 'run' mode.
A new switch is about $10... I fixed mine by removing it and re-pegging the parts back together after cleaning and lubing. It is an 85, so not much newer than yours.
