There is no economical substitute for cubic inches. But the 351W is fine at 351 cu ". I would leave it like it is, may save a lot of money and aggrevation.
Basically i have a 289 in my 55 right now, runs good. But i am enterested in power. Not tons of power, but enough to light them up, smoke a ricer off the line. (i have nothing against ricers, just prefer old cars more). I have a 351w all tore down, and would like to get power out of it, what i am asking is the $1000 stroker kit worth the money in results of power improvement?
It CAN be, but it needs a little more than just the crank and pistons before it really makes power. Stock heads are severely restrictive and will have to be replaced (the factory 392 stroker comes with GT40-X's). It's really just one part of a total package. The 351W can get by on ported stock heads for up to 400hp; the 393 (unless built as a low-end torque motor) simply runs out of air above 5000 rpm.
Then would you recomend just building the 351 straight? Good heads, cam, headers, intake and call it good? Anymore suggestions? If i just build that up, can i expect 400hp out of it?
