Repeat observations while towing...my imagination?

We've recently purchased a 29' TT. I've essentially towed it twice, once from the dealer and again this weekend for it's first outing.

It's obvious that a rear sway bar is needed. It's not terrible as some have made it seem, but I think it should be better. Will a bar from a SD pickup work on an X? I'd be happy to scour the boneyards for one if it will fit.

The more interesting observation is with the way it pulls. The first tow from the dealer was about 50 miles. I drove about 1/2 way and was a little dissappointed with it's ability to maintain 65 MPH, and the 'puter indicated 7.5 MPG. I was not thrilled about that. We stopped for a 30 min pit stop and afterwards it pulled great. Stayed in OD most of the time and easily maintained 65, sometimes better. The 'puter steadily increased to about 9MPG by the trips end.
This w.e. the same thing. A couple of times it downshifted to 2nd(I will say 4000rpm sounds good), the 'puter indicated 7.5MPG and 65 was about all it had. The return trip was quite different. We had driven about 90 HWY miles before hooking up and driving home. I was shocked that not only was 65 MPG easily attained, we saw**ahem**80 a few times...in OD and occasionally shifted down to 3rd. The 'puter indicated 9.2 MPG. I realize other facters can attribute to my observations, but the wind this w.e. was steady and directly from the side, which exacerbated the sway problem. I just seemed it runs way different. Could the 'puter adjust so completely to the "soccer mom" mode that when the trailer is attached it freaks out and takes a while to re-learn?

Id say that the reason u had low speed the way their was the headwind. BTW what rear end do u have? 4.30's are the best with 31 inch (stock) tires. They will improve ur towin MPG and really improve ur power. Since u have 2wd, it will be a cheap upgrade.
